The public hearing of evidence by the Senate special committee on the recipiocity agreement has concluded. The committee will discuss its report on Wednesday. in connection with the chief political controversy, the evidence tiiat has just been given by the publishers on the question of Canadian trade reciprocity before the Senate Committee lias revealed the existence of a. printing paper trust. This trust, the publishers stated, would, they hoped, he smashed when the Canadian reciprocity agreement has been ratified. Another section opposed to reciprocity, the lumber traders, are also ;dleged to he working with the aid of a combine. The Federal Government has just had an enquiry opened to investigate the alleged existence in the Unitor! States of this lumber trust. A Federal Court grand jury will seek 1 1 establish whether or not an organisation of this character responsible for tno restraint of trade has come into existence.
