SAILORS' REST.

BENEFIT ENTERTAINMENT,

A good audience assembled in the Opera House last night on the occasion of the benefit tendered by Mr. Tom Pollard in aid of the funds oi the Sailor’s Rest. The programme, which comprised instrumental and vocal items as well as biograph pic tures, was an excellent one in every way, and was heartily enjoyed by those present. The Mjethodist orchestra, under the baton of Mr. W. J. Holder, contributed an overture and a selection in capital style. Songs were given by Mrs. Pound, Mrs Jordan (“For all Eternity”), Miss Cissy O’Keefe (“Down in the Deep”), Miss Chunn (“Shadows”), Mr. Jarmen (“Asleep in the Deep”), Mr. Brav (“They all love Jack.”) His Worship the Mayor (Mr. A. C. Russell) on behalf of the Committee, thanked those present for their attendance and the performers for their asistance. He specially thanked Mr Tom Pollard for his great generosity. Mr. Pollard had now given no less than twenty benefits in Greymouth, and they would all remember the monster Pollard benefit at the time cf the Brunner disaster which had realised £llO. Sometimes he thought they were imposing too much on Mr. Pollard’s generosity, but he did not seem to mind. He again thanked one and all for their attendance.
