. FAULTY CHARTS, A HARBOUR OVER THREE MILES OUT. NEW PLYMOUTH, March, 20. . Captain Newton, the Harbour Master, reporting to the New Plymouth Harbour Board to-day, said that in the course of sweeping and surveying the approaches to the harbour during the past few weeks, he had discovered that the position of the harbour, as published in the “New Zealand Almanac,” is three and three quarter miles out, its position being that distance too far east. This was confirmed by the Department of Lands. THE AUSTRALIAN DESTROYERS. SYDNEY, March, 20.—Owing, to the defects in the Australian destroyers’ steering gear, their visit to Sydney has had to be postponed. Great preparations had been' made for the official welcome on Wednesday, and there is much disappointment at the postponement. " PUZZLING DEFECTS. MELBOURNE, March, 20—Experts are completely puzzled by the_ defects in the engines of the Australian destroyers. Some alternations have been made in the steering gear, but without effect. ... • , Engineers are carefully examining each part in order to try' to discover the cause of the defects. It is stated that similar difficulties have occurred in the same class of boats in England.
