A LODGER'S RIGHTS.
PURCHASING LIQUOR FOR SUNDAY

A decision, which is important to publicans, was given at Motueka by Mr Evans, S.M., in a case where the licensee was charged with selling liquor to a lodger after closing hours, for consumption off the premises.. The Magistrate found that the lodger purchased the liquor bona fide and at his own expense for the purpose of entertaining friends in a drive on Sunday. He held that the lodeer was not entitled to constitute himself an agent for purchasing liquor for the party, but his right to purchase under certain exceptions in his favour was co-extensive with it ha. landlord's right to sell under his license. The Magistrate was satisfied that the lodger had purchased a reasonable quantity of liquor on his own behalf and not as an agent for the party. He, therefore, ( dismissed the information.
