VALEDICTORY.
PRESENTATION TO MR W. FENTON
A' banquet to Mr W .Fenton, who is leaving Grevmouth on Monday on his way to British Columbia; was tendered to him at Mr J. McCarthy's Commercial Hotel last night, at which there was a large attendance. The big dining room was well filled with his fellow-workers, who assembled to bid him good luck. Mr G. Stanton was in the chair, and Mr C. Cooke in the vice-chair. Justice having been amply done to the many good things provided, the Chairman delegated Mr C;*)ke to make a presentation to their guest, in the shape of a silvermounted , walking stick, which he did in an expressive manner, showing that Mr Fenton had proved himself loyal to the cause of labour and conveying their best wishes for his future success in whatever portion of the globe he might be situated. Mr Fenton acknowledged the expressions of good feeling and the handsome presentation. During the evening songs were sung and recitations given bv Messrs Dallard, Millot, White, Williams, Lawsou, Williamson, and the chairman, and the singing of Auld Lang Sync brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
