N.Z. LABOUR PARTY.
MEETING TO-MORROW AFTERNOON
A- meeting of the Greymouth branch of the New Zealand Labour Party will be held in the Lyceum Hall to-morrow afternoon for the purpose of deciding whether it will run candidates for the forthcoming .municipal election or not. Labour could not strike a more opportune time than the present to put its platform before the public. The following are a. few of its planks :—Strict adherence to the by-laws of the Borough, reorganisation of the staff of employees, both indoor and out: setting the Borough finances in orer by obtaining the services of'the most competent man available; gradual consolidation of the various loans; extension of gas and water mains; the Municipality to purchase horses and drays, make nil roads under a proper system ; construction of swimming baths; municipalisation of Native reserve lands, etc.' 4 Every citizen in town may become a member of the Labour Party by signing the platform pledge. ■At a general meeting it will be decided how many candidates will be put forward—perhaps nine or only a portion thereof. When the number is fixed, nominations are called for, and if the candidates nominated exceed the number previously decided on by the rarty, then aselection ballot is taken. The successful ones are then nominated to contest the election for a seat at the Council table. The party will then work all it knows to secure the return of those selected. The public should be sufficiently interested to take solid action, and are therefore invited to attend the preliminary meeting to-morrow afternoon in the Lyceum Hall.
