The uncle had largely invested in American railways, and subsequently took to Wall Street speculations, everything he touched turning to money.
Writes Lloyds' Weekly : "A casual survey of the notices of Drury Lane pantomime informs me that thirty-four critics (at least) allow "Jack and the Beanstalk" to be a "triumph." A reason for this is undoubtedly the greater freedom allowed for the imprint of personality. The audience was at once responsive to the charm of Miss Dolly Castles, the "principal boy" from Australia. She is a tiny creatui'e, with a mass of fugitive fair hair; as pretty as a picture, full of higTf spirits, and vocally gifted. What an asset in a pantomime success is an outstanding hero ! Sometimes Drury Lane has been badly at fault in this respect." Miss Dolly Castles is a sister to Miss Amy Castles, who gives a concert in Grcymouth to-night.
