PEDIGREE PIGS.

A CONSIGNMENT FROM ROTO MANU. There passed through Greymouth yesterday en route for the Hokitika show a truck load of pedigree Berkshire pigs which would be a credit to any show ring in the dominion and which attracted a good deal of attention at the hands of local judges of that class of animals. They were all young ones and had been bred and reared on Mr A. IT. Winder’s Waitahuna farm on the Roto Manu settlement and did their owner and breeder as well as His farm, every credit. They form a portion of a renowned stud and have been reared under conditions such as will fit them to take up their duties of improving the breed of pigs on the West Coast without incurring the set back that pampered animals often endure when taken from a life of luxury to face the normal conditions under which pigs usually exist on the ordinary settler’s farm.

The consignment comprised the boar Whitchurch Lad by the imported boar Buscat Lad, winner of eight championships at the Canterbury and Otago shows in 1909. His dam was Whitchuch Sow XIV winner of eight first prizes in'the same show rings in 1909.

The boar Maori Chief is by Premier, winner of the first and champion prizes at Hokitika and Reef ton last year. His dam is Princess Victoria by Ruddingtnn’s Maori King, winner of the championship at the Exhibition show in 1906 which was imported bv G. E. Rhodes Esq., of Ellesmere. The third is a full sister to the above her dam Princess Victoria being Queen Alexandra, winner of seven first prizes in 1906 including the Exhibition show where she was the •Champion sow. A porker 15 months old whoso live weight yesterday was 122 lbs and whose dressed weight was estimated at 951bs and a bacon pig nine months old, whose live weight was 2341bs and estimated dressed weight would bo 190 lbs made up the truck load which all do their owner and breeder, Mr Wheeler credit and show that not only has lie secured the very choicest breed of pigs but thoroughly understands their treatment.
