A SYDNEY MOVEMENT. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, Feb. 21. There was a representative meeting here to-night to advocate Australian defence, under the auspices of the British Immigration League, the Lord Mayor presiding. The meeting adopted resolutions pledging its support for any action taken by the Federal Minister of Defence to” ensure at the ealiest moment an adequate supply of arms and ammunition to enable the whole adult population of Australia to take part in the defence of the country if the necessity should arise, and urging the Federal Minister to consider if the unsettled international conditions do not require an extension of the defence preparations so as to include all youths attaining the age of eighteen in 191.1 under the compulsory training mw.and to provide for compulsory adult military training in that year also. The meeting also resolved to recommend that steps be taken to ensure uniformity of gauge on the trunk railways in order to facilitate defence.
