Inspector Black is at' present on his periodical visit of inspection to Okarito.

Mr J. Tennent has left for Auckland, where he attends the Druids’ Conference.

Prince Leopold, of Battenberg and party, are paying a flying visit to Reefton to-night, en route for Westport. Mr Wm. Fogarty, representing David A. Eberlet, New Zealand Railways advertising contractor, arrived by the Mapourika this morning. Prince Leopold, of Battenberg, and Dr. Mcllroy will arrive from Chistchurch this evening. When on the West Coast, they will visit Hokitika, and Westport. Detective Campbell is at present relieving Sergt. Dew, in charge of the Westport Police District, during the latter’s absence on leave.

Mr Adam Wilson, accountant in the Greymouth branch of the Bank of New Zealand, is to relieve Mr Pickett, Reefton manager, who cues on a month’s holiday. During Mr Wilson’s absence from Greymouth, his place will he taken by Mr de Tourettes, who recently acted in a similar capacity here. The deatli took place recently at Mount Eden, Auckland, of Mrs Louisa S. PI. Gile t s, wife of Dr J. Giles. The late Mrs Giles, whoso maiden name was Miss Drake, was a direct descendant of the celebrated admiral of that name and came out to New Zealand with her husband in the early sixties. She resided in Hokitika with her husband for many years, and was widely known and respected on the West Coast, where many will hear of her death with regret.
