JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP EXAMS.

TARANAKI’S CLAIM DISPUTED.

[BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION,]

NELSON, Tin's Day

In connection with the Taranaki telegram, claiming first place in the Junior Scholarship examinations, the Nelson Education Board office furnishes the appended memo, disputing the claim, for the last two years the highest place in the examination referred to being gained by pupils in the Nelson Education District.

In the 1909 examination, William It. Morris (Reefton District High School) came first in the Dominion with 684 marks out of a possible 800, and last year Edward Gifford (of the Westport District High School) gained ton place with 690 narks.

The Taranaki comparison appears of little value, as the number of competitors from each district does not seem to be taken into account in the basis of computation. In the 1910 examination, eleven candidates from the Nelson District gained higher marks than the candidate who was placed top in the Marlborough District, which game dsecoud place according to the New Plymouth telegram.
