PERSONAL NOTES.

Mrs Williams, from Pitt Street, Dunedin, is at present visiting her sister, Mrs Mcßeath in Reef ton.

The Misses Wallace of Hokitika are at present on a visit to Reef ton, being the guests of Mrs T. J. Malloy.

Mr Young, stationmaster at Greymouth, has gone to the North Island on his holiday. He is being relieved by Mr J. C. Duncan,. clerk in the goods’ store. Dr Charles Morice, who, accompanied by Mrs Morice and family and Miss Berry, has been spending an enjoyable holiday at the Glaciers, returned home last evening. Master J. Young, son of Mr Young, stationmaster, Greymouth, was among the successful candidates for the Junior Civil Service and Matriculation Examinations. ■■ On the recommendation of the Commandant of the Forces, the Government has, authorised payment of £IOO to Captain R. J. Seddon ’ for extra work in connection with the new defence scheme.

.' Mr A. Doig, the well-known local butcher, who has been incanacitated for some time owing to an injury to his leg, lias Bo' far recovered as to be able to superintend business at the shop. A correspondent writes The many friends of Miss Vera Campbell, daughter of. Mr A. C,. Campbell, J.P., formerly of Kumara and now of - Cobden, will be pleased to see her name among the successful candidates in the recent Matriculation and Solicitor’s General Knowledge Examination. 1

v-Mr ’C. M. Benzoni, District Engineer on the Westland Section of the New _Ze aland Railways, and Mr D. C. Mclntosh, Inspecting Railway Engineer, who have been inspecting the whole of the line, are now at Westport. They will leave there tomorrow for Reefton, and will come down the Reefton line to Greymouth on Friday morning.

We regret to hear of the rather serious illness of Miss S. Williams, teacher in the Reefton District School. Miss Williams has been to Auckland on a visit to her brother, Mr T. Williams, and arrived home on Monday, in rather a serious condition. We hope to soon hear of her speedy recovery.
