RACING NOTES. Lord Kileheran is pleasing his ownertrainer, Mr W. Moore, by his exertions at the Hutt. The colt will fulfil his Mastcrton engagements. Dave Price, some time back first horseman to the Hon. J. D. Ormond, has accepted the position of trainer to Mr. Shaw, of Timaru. Sol Green has heavily supported Comedy King for the Melbourne Cup, but on account of that horse having contracted influenza, it is not likely the conqueror of Prince Poole will be able to race at his best in the Cup. At the conclusion of the recent A.J.C. Derby, one of Australia’s best trainers remarked that the field was the worst on record. The winner Tanami started a rank outsider, due no doubt to his finishing last in the Hawkcsbury Guineas the week previous. Hs owner did not want to start him, but was over persuaded by Trainer McGrath to give him a run. Tanami comes from the American Foxhall. The favourite for this race, Cadonia, was the first horse beaten. Kulnine, who won the Grand National Hurdles in 1892, dropped dead at Waikari recently. Kulnine was got by Cadogan from Caprice, by Anteros.

Tangimoana was not mated last souson. owing to the late period of the year when it was decided to relegate her to the matrons’ paddock. This year the San Fran mare will be sent to Papakura. Captain, who scored a very easy win in the Hurdles on the second day of the Napier Park meeting, has been purchased by Miss O’Neill, of Palmerston, and will race in future in her nomination. He is a full brother to Buoyant, and each were bred by Mrs. “Sidney Harrison,” of Palmerston. Captain was making his first appearance in public over hurdles when he won, and it is somewhat of a coincidence that his rider, F. Cress, was doing likewise. The Captain Webb gelding’s performance won him a lot of friends, and C. O’Neill, his trainer, is so impressed with the colt’s capabilities that he contemplates taking him across to Australia later on. He is a born stayer and jumper, and though he is rather young to be at the jumping game ho promises so well that he will be labelled “dangerous goods” whether ho is raced in Australia, where there is a dearth of good jumpers, or in the Dominion, where his class are equally scarce.
