THE DYNAMITARDS. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.] NEW* YORK, Oct. 6. The belief is held by some that the Los Angelos dynamitards are expert quartz miners from Northern California. Detectives are now searching that district. So far 16 bodies have- been ercovcred and seven l'cmain in the ruins of the Times' buildings. GENERAL OTIS. Harrison Gray Otis, journalist and soldier, against whose life the plot was apparently aimed, - was born near Marietta/Ohio, on February 10; 1827, his parental grandfather having been a Revolutionary soldier. He enlisted as .a private in the 12th Ohio Infantry in June, 1861, became second lieutenant in November of the following year, and first lieutenant on May 20, 1863. Two months later, he wag' transferred to the 23rd Ohio Infantry, and was promoted to a • captaincy. Lated he was breveted major, and, in March, 1865, received his commission as lieutenant-colonel of Volunteers, 'for gallant and meritorious service luring the war." Ho was twice wounled during the long and sanguinary conflict between the North and South. From 1866 to 1867 hev'was official reporter to the Ohio/House of Representatives, and in'. 1868 he was appointed foreman./of the Government Printing Office.' Retiring from this aosition in 1869, he became chief of i division of'"the United States Patent Office,. retaining office till 1876. From 879 to 1881 he was the special agent if the States Treasury in diargo/of the Alaskan seal islands. General Otis has been prominent in Calif ornian journalism for thirtythree years, as editor and manager of th'e "Los Angelos Times." He was ■/ appointed Brigadier-General of the ■ United States Volunteers on-May 27. 1898, and conmmanded the first brigade of the Second Division of the First Army Corps in the Philippine Islands during the Spanish-American war, and led the brigade at the capture of Calooncan, February 10, 1899. He was breveted major-general of Volunteers in March, 1899."f0r meritorious conduct at the Battle of Cilcooncan." •He retired from active service on July 2, 1899, $ and since then has devoted himself to journalism. -, '.'..'..
