[per press association—copyright, j A FATAL~QUARREL. SYDNEY, October s.—The body of a Russian named Trenberg, a sailor off the steamer “Anglo Bolivian,” has been recovered in Sydney Harbour. During a quarrel yesterday night, the deceased was knocked overboard. The body bore severe injuries, A German sailor named Kachler has been arrested on a charge of causing Trenberg’s death. MR FISHER OFF TO SOUTH AFRICA. MELBOURNE, October s—The. Federal Premier, Mr Fisher, sailed to-day for South Africa to represent Australia at the opening of the Union Parliament. Before the Premier’s departure, the Cabinet decided that Mr Fisher and one or more Ministers should attend the Imperial Conference at liondon next year. MELBOURNE, October s.—ln the Federal House of Representatives today the Bill empowering Parliament to take over monopolies was read the first time. The land tax debate was continued. UNION OUNCHURCHES. SYDNEY, October s.—The Presbyterian General Assembly discussed and adopted its Special Committee’s report on the progress of the movement towards the union of churches. The report showed that as far as the Methodist and Congregational Ohrches were concerned, the outlook for union was hopeful, but negotiations with the Church of England were at a standstill, pending a certain decision of the Anglican General Synod. CHURCH UNION. Received this day at 11.5 a.m. SYDNEY, This Day.—The Presbyterian General Assembly approved of a deliverance stating that it received the report dealing with the union of churches, and, without committing itself to details, expressed approval of the basis of the doctrine. It transmits the scheme to the State Assembled Presbyteries for consideration and instructs the committee to prepare a full explanation. A BIG ORDER. MELBOURNE, This Day.— The .members of the Federal Parliament visit London officially in connection with the King’s Coronation. FEDERAL LAND BILL. MELBOURNE, This Day.—ln the Federal House of Representatives, during consideration of the Land Tax Bill, Mr Hughes moved an amendment fixing the under-valuation at 25 per centum below the value fixed by the Commission. Under such circumstances the Commonwealth might require the land at twenty-five per centum, pus ten per centum, irrespective of whether the under valuation was intentional or not. Mr Foster pointed out that in New Zealand, before this clause was abandoned, the market became inflated. The amendment was carried. ADVERTISING AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE, This Day.— The High Commissioner has recommended a scheme of advertising Australia, to cost £50,000. The Government do not intend to adopt it, BLACKS ON THE WARPATH. PERTH, This Day.—Fifty Lavcrton blacks are on the warpath to avenge the recent massacre.
