[15 y TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.j 'LONDON, May SI. The s.s. Zealandia, Huddart-Parker’s new steamer, lias sailed for Melbourne. The new twin-screw passenger steamer Zealandia, which has been built by Messrs J. Brown and Co., of Clydebank, to the order of Messrs Huddart-Parker and Co., Proprietary, Limited, for the intercolonial service, is similar in design to the Ulimaroa, but larger, and will be the finest and largest vessel in the trade between Australia and New Zealand. She is a vessel of 6500 tons, 410 feet in length and 54ft 7iu beam. The now Zealandia will run between Sydney, Wellington, Lvttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, Hobart, and Melbourne, and is expected to arrive in New. Zealand waters in .August. 'The Zealandia has been built under special survey, and will be classed 100 A 1 at Lloyds. She will -.lso be equipped in acordance with the Board of Trade requirements for a foreign-going passenger steamer. Accommodation is to be provided for about 200 first-class passengers, 120 second-class and 126 third-class. The officers and crew will number about 130. The first-class accommodation, consisting of two and three-berth state rooms and public rooms, will be arranged amidships on the upper,shelter and .promenade decks. The second-class accommodation will be arranged at the aft end and on the upper and shelter decks, and will comprise state rooms, dining saloon, music room and smoking rooms. The

dining saloon placed on the upper deck, will occupy the full width of the vessel, and will seat nearly rinety persons. The third-class accommodation will be arranged forward on the main, upper and shelter deck, with cabins for from two to six passengers. Four cargo holds are to be fitted with hatches to each, and eleven sets of Welin quadrant davits will he fitted. The propelling machinery, also being constructed at the Clydebank works, consists of two sets of puadruple expansion engines, on the inverted direct-acting principle, designed for a pressure of 2151 b steam supplied by seven single-ended multitubular boilers arranged in one boiler-room, and worked under Howden's forced draught. It is expected that the new liner will leave shortly for Melbourne, to start running in the intercolonial trade. The old Zealandia was purchased some time ago .by the Union tS earn ah ip Company and renamed Paloona. The latter vessel is cn-o-aged in the Australian coastal trade.
