WEST COAST BANDS ASSOCIATION

Tlie annual meeting of tbis Association was Jield on Saturday morning, at which there was a thoroughly' representative gathering, i)r. J. W. McBrearty Junr. presiding. The balance sheet and report were read and adopted. A letter was read from the .Greymouth Trotting Club, offering a ten guinea shield for competiton at the contests, to bo won three times in succession or five times at intervals. The Secretary, Mr. Keddell, was directed to acknowledge the shield with thanks and to inform the Trotting Club that the Association had decided to give the winning band that day the premier position on the shield. (This subsequently proved to be the Grey Battalion band, who thus obtain first honors on the shield). It was resolved to invite the Premier, Sir Joseph Ward, to become patron of the Association, The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted in the re-election of Dr. J. W. Mcßrearty Junr as president ; Mr. J. P. Beirnc, and the Mayors of each borough and chairmen of the various County Councils on the Coast, together with the respective mine managers, vice-presidents; secretary, Mr. P. W. Keddell; treasurer, Mr. J. Stewart; auditor, Mr. M. J. Phillips. It was unanimously decided to hold the next content in Hokitika. This terminated the business.
