Mr J. Young, stationmaster, has returned to town from a visit to Christchurch,

Miss Cunliffe has been appointed to the Telephone Exchange in place of Miss Kerr, who has resigned. Mr Geo. Pamment, of Kmnara, who has been on a holiday to. Sydney, has returned much benefited in health. Mr Charles Ellis, of Runanga, who has been under Dr Booth’s care at Dunedin, has returned, feeling greatly improved from his visit.

Mr Q. S. Munro (who was manager of tire New Zealand Exhibition), now residing at Liverpool, was to have presented the Westport District Welshmen’s address to the Hon. Lloyd-George.

Mr A. J. Clunie, formerly second officer of the Mapoufifca, who met with an accident at Westport some weeks ago, is reported to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mr Ivan E. Foot, of the Government Insurance Department at Wellington and formerly of Greymouth. who went Homo to consult opticians with -regard to his sight, lias received the satisfactory assurance that it is better than he feared, writes a London correspondent. According to a telegram from Dunedin to-day, Sir”'Joseph Ward expects to hear the name of the new Governor announced within a fortnight. On his return from attending the Governor, the Premier intends making a tour of Central Otago, arranging for the commencement of irrigation works and discussing railway matters. Mr Henry Wicken, accompanied by Mrs Wicken and son, leave Reefton for London on Monday next, via Wellington and Sydney. Mr Wicken does not expect to return to Reefton before November next or early in December. All friends wish the family a pleasant and happy visit and a safe return. The motion passed by the Presbytery of Westland at its last meeting in regard to the Rev. R. Stowart was as follows: “The Presbytery of Westland desires lo place on record its high appreciation of the valuable work done by the Rev. R. Stewart during the fifteen years that lie occupied the position of Presbytery t lerk. During these years great progress has been made bv Presbyterianism on the West Coast. ‘Much of tho credit for these developments is due to Mr Stowart. who has taken tho keenest and warmest interest in church extension and in missionaries laboring in the new stations. As clerk Mr Stewart has been a prompt, efficient and ever-conrteous servant of the church. His attitude to his follow 1 resbytets has been the kindest and most brotherly possible. In everv way Mr Stewart has proved himself a most unselfish and diligent servant of Christ-and His Church. It was further decided to entertain tho Rev. Mr Stewart and his family at lunch at the next quarterly meeting of the Presbytery, when also a substantial presentation from the Presbyterian churches of Westland will be made.
