Tho annual competition for the Deveuish Shield by the Old Boys teams of the various secondary schools of the Dominion lias become quite an event. The idea came from Air H. Deveuish (President of tho Nelson College Old Boys Football team but recently of Oreymouth) a.nd since the inauguration of the competitions three years ago much interest has been taken in them. This year (lie tournament has been held at Nelson and the Nelson College Old Boys succoeeded in winning the i shield from Christchurch Old Boys by ] 11 points to nil, after beating Welling- , ton College Old boys by 23 to nil. i A feature of the Deveuish si. : hi matches is that good hard chan football is particularly noticeable. !
