Mr Eraser, Crown Prosecutor at Dunedin, lias been appointed King's Counsel. Miss McLean, Inspector of Hospitals, is at present on an official visit to the West Coast,
Mr L. F. le Berry, M.A., leaves by the steamer Arahura on Monday next for Wellington, where he attends the Educational Conference.
Owing to aiiiio friction in the West-port hospital staff, Nurse Rex, also Probationers Ken- and Galaguer have resigned their positions. Miss A. Monkman, of Papanui, who is the guest of Mrs Donnellan, Nelson Creek, returns to Cliristchurch shortly, after spending a delightful holiday on the Coast. Mr .1. 11. Mentiplay, who has been connected with the Wellington branch of the Hank of New Zealand for sixteen years, the last- five as accountant, has been appointed relieving manager, and will leave Wellington next week to relieve the manager of the Westport branch. 'Hi- General Manager of Railways (Mr T. Ronavno), accompanied bv Messrs J. Burnett (Chief Engineer of Railways), and \. L. Beat-tie (Chief Mechanical" Engineer), will arrive in Greymouth on Monday on the annual inspection of the- New, Zealand railways. Mr A. C. Grant, stationmaster at Hokitika, is on holiday leave for three weeks. During Mr Grant's absence from duty, Mr McDonald, his assistant, will tw in charge, while Mr William Fowler, who has been permanently appointed as assistant, will take Mr McDonald's place. Mr G. D. Porter, the popular advanoe agent lor several companies, is at present conducting negotiations, the outcome of which will, he hopes, be a visit to the West Coast of Hackenschmidt (the world's champion wrestler). Mr 11. Lockington, of Rcefton, who has been in Wellington sitting for an examination for a first-class stationary driver's certificate, returned this morning by the Mapounka. His friends will be pleased to hear that he passed his examination successfully. He is staving with his r-is-m\ -Mrs R. R Bellamy. «>n Wednesday next Nelson Creek will be the scene of a smart and fashionable wedding, when Miss Elsie Cowan, eldest daughter of Mr James Cowan, the worthy and Highly esteemed manager of the Paetolus Company's dredge, will be married at All Saint's Church to Mr Jim Leitch, of Ngaliere. Mr Jim Leitch has for some years held an important position in connection with the management of the. Blackball Company. As "both the young people are general favorites throughout the district, their approaching marriage is causing quite a stir.
