Mrs Frank Dyer (nee Miss Seddon) nd her daughter, are at present on a visit J to Greymouth, being the quest of Mrs Mrs Duncan McLean.

Mr Robert Tennent, who was appointed in July, 1897, Inspector of Mines for Marlborough, Nelson and the West Coast mining districts, having attained the age of sixty-five years, has been retired under the terms of the Civil Service Superannuation Act. In conveying information of his retirement to Mr Tennent, the Under secretary for Mines expressed .the high appreciation by the Government of the valuable services which had been rendered to the Dominion during the past 12 years, and testified to the efficient manner in which his work in connection with the inspection of the mines of the West Coast had been carried out. A letter, signed by all Mr Tennent’s fellow officers in the Department, expressing regret at his retirement, and conveying the heartiest good wishes for his future welfare), will also be presented (o Mr Tennent,) who has received three months’ leave of absence on full pay from the 31st March, 1909. Mr Tennent liogan life at a very early ago in a Scottish colliery, and by strenuous efforts reached the top rung of the ladder as a colliery-manager. The ventilation and better sanitary condition of the mines received his closest attention; whilst Inspector of Mines on the West, Coast, and there has been considerable improvement in that direction during the past dozen years.
