GORE, October 3.—An old resident of Clove and an old-age pensioner named Robert Peffers, about 65 years of age, left homo at five o’clock this morning. Owing to his not returning for breakfast a search was made, when Ins body was found in the Malacca River. The deceased was tor some time in SeaclilF but was discharged' a year ago. GISBORNE, Octotei 3.—A man named Edward James Ranger, aged 28 years, died in the hospital hero to-night as the result of a dose of arsenic, self administered. At half-past two this afternoon he walked into the police station, and stated that he had poisoned himself at noon by taking arsenic, as he was tired of life. He had no money .and could not get work. Sergt. Hutton then summoned medical assistance and the usual remedies were applied, after which ho was removed to the hospital, where he died at seven o’clock.
