MR MASSEY BLOCKS THE WAY. (rsa PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Tin's- Day. In the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, Sir J. G. Ward asked for leave to move tl>e notice of motion standing in his name, “that on and after Wednesday, Vth hist., Hie standing orders be suspended to enable new business to be taken after half-past midnight. Mr Massey protested. Sir J. G. ‘Ward failed to see why Mr Massey should obstruct the business in this way. Mr Massey pointed out that the Standing Orders required two clear days’ notice to iic given. Sir .J. G. Ward said his motion was for the sole purpose of oxnediling the Lust r.osS
Mr Massey replied that if the motion was carried, it would enable the C-oveni-liumt to bring down inmoiTant bills like the Maori Land Laws Amendment nr public Service Classification and Superannuation at two, three or four o’clock in the morning. The Speaker asked if any member objected to ibe motion being brought forward. notwithstanding that-two days’ notice had not been given. Mr Massey: “Yes, I do.”
