Gold Thread has been scratched for all engagements at the meeting. SYDNEY, October 7. Aeolus changed hands prior to winning the- second hurdle race Mr Lyons purchasing him for £2OO. THE A.J.C. RACES. SYDNEY, October 7. The third day’s results arc: — Hurdles.—Aeolus 1, Mercury 2, Ryde 3. Eight starters. Aeolus established a lead from the jump and was never headed. Won comfortably by four lengths. Time 5.51. Craven Plate. —Mooltan 1, lolairc 2, Lord Nolan 3. When fairly going lolaire made the running and led past the mile post, two lengths from Mooltan. The latter shot out below the distance and won easily by two lengths. Time 2.14. Suburban Handicap.—Mundvie 1, Coppertop 2, Warbec 3. Eleven starters. Won easily by five lengths. Time 1.38|. Grantham Stakes.—Vavasor 1, Artillci>e 2, Matchmaker 3. Ten starters. Matchmaker was the first to move, with Reauvive and Artillcrie in close attendance. Vavasor was handy. Beau vivo joined the leaders at six furlongs, and, Matchmaker led into the straight. Artillulc wont to the front at the distance, but Vavasor caught up, at the half distance and won comfortably by two lengths. Tune 1.39 J. Gimcrack Stakes.—Naudillyan 1, Maud Malchestern 2, Lord Palmerston 3. Fourteen starters. Won by three lengths. Time E6i. Sydney Handicap. Pharos 1, Cross Battery 2, Claydon 3. Seven starters. Won by two lengths, a head between the second and third horses. Time 2.36^. The weather was fine and hot and the attendance good. THE HAWKES BAY RACES. NAPIER, October 7. The Hawkcs Bay Jockey Club’s- spring meeting opened to-day. The weather was showery, but the attendance was good. Tiie course was in good going order. The .total sum handled by the machine was £6579, a decrease of £2359. Sixteen bookmakers wore licensed. The results arc Pakowhai Hurdles.—Aroha 1, Monavque 2, Gold Dust 3. Also ran—Repulse. Won hard held by two lengths. Time 3.53. Maiden Hack.—Kopu 1, Voetgang 2, Separator 3. Also ran—Merry Tiger, Perchance, Thaler, The Cockatoo, Miscast, Magnet and Gold Treasure. Won by three parts of a length. Time 1.30.
King Edward Handicap.—California 1, St-. Aiden 2, Polyanthus 3. Also ran— Uennkn, Loirct. Golden Gate and I’erengaria. California won as he liked. The horse and rider received a great ovation or returning to the scales. Time 2.1. Toinoana Hack Hurdles. Rnahon 1, Master Douglas 2, Bnlworth 3. Also ran— Pi sorvoir, Commander, Hatley, Oakhurno, and Forest. Won hy a length. Forest fi.ll, and his rider, Griffiths, had his right arm fractured. Time 3.27. Hastings Stakes.—Rlysian 1, Provocation 2, Bliss 3. Also ran—Xylophone, Idealism. Nantiform, Maori King, Tav.haki. Merigal, IMorenicre and Perhaps. Won from start to finish. Time 49 3-sscc.
