Tlie Minister in charge of the '.Department of Tourist and Health resorts staled: in his annual report that although the number of visitor's to the doiiiiion was 1082 less than the previous year the direct revenue of the Department increased from £lB,202 to £20,487. He expressed the opinion that the work done by (he Department oversea agencies is largely contributing to Hie increasing number of visitors that are coming from the Australian States. The number of persons calling at the Sydney agency for information concerning the dominion was 16,738 and at the Melbourne agency 11,982. It is hoped to obtain a large number of sot Hers of a good class from India. Arrangements have been made with the Imperial Government to give lime expired officers and men the option of a free passage to New Zealand in lieu of returning to Great Britain. The time is not. very far distant when itwill bo found advisable to have electric, (rams between Roforua, Oliinomiitu and Whakaivkavown but this work is mil. contemplated at present.
