SOCIAL AT NO TOWN.

'" MR WYLIE ENTERTAINED.

',' (Our Own Correspondent.) A"very pleasant social gathering took place in Fallon's Hotel, No Town, on Friday last, when a number of Mr J. Wylie's friends entertained him on the e.ye of his departure for Dunedin, where lie? intends to reside. Mr Wylie has been a resident of the district for the last three years, and has made himself deservedly popular in our social gatherings. During the, evening songs were contributed by the following ladies and gentlemen:—Miss J. Fallon, Miss Lily Fallon and Miss Gifford; Messrs L. Anderson,W. Ray, S. Robertson, E. Nicholson, J. Trelevan, and recitations by Messrs A. Malone and J. i McGregor. "'During an interval Mr Nicholson came forward and in a few well chosen and appropriate remarks stated that during Mr Wylie's residence here he had always willingly assisted both financially and other'w& 'at any gathering we may have had on hand, but apart from that his kindly man"nei''had won the esteem of all who had "come 1 in contact with him, and now on behalf ! 'of the residents it (rave him very 'great'pleasure to ask Mr Wylie to accept as'a small token of their esteem and regard a sovereign case, with his name en--graved thereon, from his No Town friends. Mr Wylie, in suitably responding, thanked the donors for their handsome gift,, and stated that it came as a great "surprise, but he would always treasure it as a remembrance of the friends he had Vleffc behind in this locality. * After refreshments were handed round, "a" number of toasts were proposed and duly responded to. The cnte-tainment was then brought to a close by singing "For he's a jolly good fellow" and "Auld Lang Syne."
