[per press association,]
NEW .I’Ll .MOI TH, August 6. Taranaki gave a shocking exhibition af football to-day in tbe match against. South Canterbury, lacking dash and finish. The now players alone pi ay;:;.’ tip tc. interprovincial form, while the cracks, Ca.men/n, Dive, Hunter, Coleman and O’Sullivan, weie painfully inaccurate in their work. The South Canterbury forwards played a fine game, while the backs wore fairly safe, and with little difficulty made tlie first spell end in a draw. Early in tho second spell My not t made a fine opening and run, passing to Sheehan, wiio dashed across. South Canterbury wore forced many times, but Taranaki’s attack was disjointed and indecisive. Near the end of tho game the visitors pressed strongly, and just on the call of time O’Bryan crossed tho line, but, unfortunately, just failed to ground the ball, and the game ended in a win for Taranaki by three points to nil. For the winners Mynott and Hargreaves (backs) and Fnkere and Tamu (forwards) played solidly, while Spillane, Scott, Bradley, and Priest (backs), Roddick, O’Bryan, and Bud cl (forwards) wore tho most prominent amongst the visitors.
