NELSON CREEK SPORTS.
With characteristic enterprise, the members of the Nelson Creek Druids' Lodge, ably led by Mr E. S. Eobson, secretary, aranged to hold a sports meeting on Friday next, Empire Day. With much enthusiasm taken in the project, it is not surprising to see the excellent manner in which the committee have arranged to carry out the meetings—a sports' gathering that promises to break all previous records in point of number of competitors and attendance of the general public. As a result of a very liberal programme, a large number of competitors, including many well-known Coast athletes and a number of young men—were induced to enter for the various events. The result is that keen interest is being taken, the men are steadily training, and by the time Friday will be in good fettle. The races promise to be very evenly contested.and that which all true sportsmen delight in—exciting races with keen and close finishes should eventuate. This is assured, for the handicapper has so well placed his men that no one can foretell of a single result. Such being the case, it is no wonder that the handicapper has given unusual satisfaction. For the convenience of the public, the Committee have arranged to erect a tea room on the ground, the ladies of Nelson Creek having taken up the task of looking after it. This is an arrangement which will be greatly appreciated. Taken altogether the sports promise to be a great success. We feel sure residents of Greymouth, Grey Valley and district will attend in largß numbers, a gathering that promises not only to be a huge success, but one at whicß keen sporE will be the order of the day.
