WEATHER FORECAST: Captain Edwin wired from Wellington at noon to-day as follows: “Expect easterly strong winds to gale, glass fall, tides moderate, sea moderate, rain probably heavy, river in Hood after 20 hours.” ARRIVED. March 27.—Pareora, ss, 355 tons, Captain Black, from Lyttelton. March 28. —Koonya, ss, 663 tons, Captain Drewittc, from Lyttelton. SAILED. March 28.—Nil. IN PORT. Kamona, Koonya, Pareora, Jane Douglas, Clyde, Annie Hill. The Koonya left Westport this morning for Grey. She is duo to-night. The Kotnku is due this evening from Lyttelton direct. The Mapourika and Koonya’s mails left Westport this morning for Reefton, and should reach here by train this evening. The Mapourika leaves Westport at six this evening for Grey. She is due to arrive at midnight, and will sail at seven o’clock to-morrow morning on return. The U.S. and A. Liner steamer Inveran, Captain Marshall, yvhich left New York on February 3 for Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand ports, has been [ fixed on time charter in the Commonwealth trade for twelve months. The steamer Bloemfontein, 4620 tons, , Captain Greggans, from New York, via Melbourne and Sydney, left the latter port on March 18th for Auckland, where she is due to-day. The vessel afterwards goes on to Wellington and Lyttelton, and after discharging her New Zealand cargo goes to Melbourne to load produce for South Africa. .

The Marine Society has been asked to supply 30 Royal Fleet Reservists to serve either as seamen or firemen on the British steamers King David, Ariadne, and Port Carodline. The Ariadne will take six of these men as sailors and a like number as firemen, whilst her boatswain and carpenter will also be Fleet Reservists. In addition she will carry a. couple of Warspite lads, so that practically the whole of (he crew will be British. In regard to the supply of cx-Nayal men for the merchant service, it is noted that there are nlenty of sailors, but not so many stokers available. The Shipping Gazette says that the Zeeland Steamship Company, which carries the mails twice daily between Queenborough and Flushing, has made arrangements for the erection of a submarine bell at the beacon just outside Queenborough pier The same system of signalling is being installed at Flushing Harbour and on two lightships on the Belgian coast which (hose mail vessels pass. The Tongue Lightship, which the Trinity Brethren refused to allow the steamship company to equip, will be the only missing link in a valuable chain of communication.
