INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION

(By Special Arrangement.) CHRISTCHURCH Mar 27. Tho Exhibition was unfortunate in regard to tile weather to-day. rain falling in intervals in the afternoon : and heavily all the evening. The Turakina Maori girls bravely gave their usual programme of dances before a fairly large audience. The massed band performance and broworks display, which were to have been held on the Sports Ground, had to be postponed till Saturady, but a huge crowd swarmed through the corridors of (ho building all tho evening. Tho Concert Hall was crowded to excess for the second performance of i.he oratorio “Elijah” which was very finely given by tho orchestra and a large choir. Two varied consignments of Auckland grapes, comprising about three quarters of a ton, grown at tho Government station at Waerenga and about two tons sent down by private growers, arrived at the Exhibition To-day. Samples were displayed in the Agricultural Department's court and tho remainder of the grapes were sold 1,0 the concessionaire for the sale id the fruit, by whom they were retailed at a rapid price. The grapes arrived in a fairly good condition. Two hundred and forty cadets from Invercargill arrived by the late express this evening. A number of the Stratford and Hawera boys who remained behind when the rest of the Taranaki contingent left yesterday, will lake their departure on Friday. Tho Broken River Proprietary Company have presented the Otago School cf Mines with an interesting exhibit of lead crystals on view in the New South Wales court. A handsome silver mug, suitably inscribed, was presented yesterday to tho thousandth babv to enter the Children’s Rest. The infant is the daughter of a foreign exhibitor Tho number of to date accommo dated in the Children’s Rest is over icOO. Infants not only from all parts of New Zealand, from Whnngarei to the Bluff, have been among its occupants, but also a large number of babies from various parts of Australia as well as a small sprinkling of children of foreign nationalities, have been left their during the day bv different foreign exhibitors. The postponement of tho fireworks display and the massed bands performance till Saturday night will add t j an already brilliant accummujaticn of attractions for Easter. Visitors at that period will have the unprecedented privilege of witnessing two separate displays of London fireworks within threo days. Preparations are being made for 'he inter-club football matches on. the Sports Ground on Saturday and Monday and arrangements are almost com pleted for the Band of Hopo Demonstration on tho latter date, which, it is confidently expected will be the

largest over held. The Dunedin Phil harmonic Societ and the Dunedin Garrisoh Band wi give performances in the Concert Ha on Saturday and Monday.
