THE ROUMANIAN RIOTS
LAND LAWS THE CAUSE OF THE TROUBLE. MUCH CRUELTY AND BLOODSHED. [Press Association—Copyright.] BUCHAREST, March 27. The trouble in Roumania is only partly anti-Semitic in character, and is largely due to trusts monopolising land and leasing it to peasants at twice and thrice the rentals that tire trusts pay. There have been serious encounters between the peasants and troops in the Ylashka district, in Roumania. Many peasants were killed and wounded. The telephone and telegraph lines were cut. The peasants, led by the village schoolmasters, committed terrible atrocities, many of the landholders being burnt to death. The entire village of Rudemy was burned. Many Jews perished in the flames. Bills for the abolition of taxes in favor of the peasants have been passed.
