The probabilities are that Mr Henderson, who was orginally an applicant for the position, will succeed Mr Goodman as city electrical engineer. Visitors from all parts of the colony are expected at Clyde on Tuesday next in connection with the opening of
the Otago Central railway to that point. A banquet is to be held in the evening in the goods shed, and will be attended by the acting-Premier, the Minister for Labor and possibly the Minister of Lands. The Upper Clutha settlers are expected to be present in force to urge on the Government the necessity for the continuance of
the line in the direction of Hawea. A letter received in Dunedin states that the flagship Powerful, presumably accompanied by the rest of the Australian squadron, was to leave Hobart for Sydney to-day, and to leave tho latter port on April 10th, arriving at Lyttelton on the 14th. No mention of the flagship coming here is made: The Roaring Meg irrigation scheme has been advanced a stage. Mr McKenzie,, Crown Ranger, has been instructed by the Government to report on the scheme. According to a map o? the Cromwell Flat prepared by Mr , McKenzie, there are 4000 acres, inchiding the borough endowment of 900 acres, which can be irrigated by the Roaring Meg scheme.
