AN ELECTION PETITION.
Mr M. Hannan, who appeared for petitioner, yesterday received advice that the application of Thomas 8011, for prohibition to prevent effect being given to Mr Kenrick’s decision electing Mr MacNamara to the seat for tho Hampden Hiding of the Inangaliua County Council, had been granted in the Supremo Court at Christchurch on Wednesday. It will bo remembered that at the election in November I last Hr Bell was declared elected by a majority of a few votes over Mr MacNainara. petition followed, with (lie result: that Mr Kenrick disallowed ; certain votes which had tho effect of ; placing Mr MacNamara at the top of tho * pel 1. Mr Bell then appealed to * the Supremo j Court, which allowed tho appeal! The point raised for tho appellant, and which was upheld, was .that the petition should have been i lodged at the Courthouse, Lyell, being . the nearest Courthouse, and that it i was improperly lodged at tho Public i Hall, Murchison, which was iisod for I occasional sittings of tho Magistrate’s 1 Court at Murchison.
