AN ELECTION PETITION
Mr 11. Hannan, who appeared for petitioner, yesterday received advice that the application of Thomas Bell, for prohibition to prevent effect being given to Mr Keurick's decision electing Mr MacNamara to tho seat for tho Hampden Hiding of the Inangaliua County Council, Intel bcc/i granted in the Supremo Court al Christc.hurch on Wednesday. It will bo remembered that at the election in November last; Mr Bell was declared elected by a majority <>f a few votes over Mr MacNamara. A petition billowed. Willi the result that Mr Kenrick disallowed eerlain voles which had tho effect of placing Mr MacNamara at tho (op of the poll. Mr Bell then appealed to tho Supreme Court, which allowed the appeal. The point raised for the appellant, and which was upheld, was that, the petition should have been lodged at the Courthouse, Lvell, being the nearest. Courthouse, and that it was improperly lodtred at the Public Hall, Murchison, which was used for occasional sittings of the Magistrate's Court at Murchison.
