The Katuona left Wellington yesterday, hut owing to the heavy sea was unable to come past the Heads. The barque Helen Denny has been chartered to load another cargo of coal lit Newcastle for Wellington. Mr 11. Hays, chief officer of the steamer Alexander, has passed his examination as master of a Home trade vessel. The Pohcrna arrived yesterday afternoon from Westport. Slio sails tiiis evening for Timarn and Dunedin.

The Mapourika arrived this afternoon from Wellington via ports. She sails on return at 7 to-morrow morning. The Government steamer llineiuoa was to leave Wellington yesterday for Cook Straits lighthouses, and on her return she will proceed to I lie southern lighthouses.

The hulk Enterprise, which sank at Wellington two weeks ago, was re-lloated on Monday afternoon. The leak, which caused the vessel to sink, was located under the counter. The ll.y. and A. line steamer Oakhuril left New York for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand ports (Auckland the first port of call in the colony) on April jSth. Captain .1. Seymour, one of the owners of the scow Warrior, which was recently wrecked on the Taranaki coast, has e turned to Auckland after an inspection of the vessel. Captain Seymour states the vessel is not so badly injured as was at first supposed, and he intends to make an effort to tloat her. She is lying on the beach well above high-water mark, and there is only about one hundred yards between where she is stranded to a small bav with deep water. It is anticipated that as all the gear is available, the Warrior can be iloated without much iliiiiiiiity ur expense.

It was recently announced (says the ■ Ifoliart Mercury)'that the Messrs' Hud- j dart Parker Proprietary Company, Ltd., i had decided to build a large twin-screw j steamer for the inter-state trade. The ' vessel will be larger than any steamer ! at present in the company's fleet, between J 5000 and 6000 tons. It was reported that I she was intended for the Westraliau trade, but it is now stated that she will run in "the New Zcaland-Hobart-Mel- i bourne service, and will be exceptionally j fast. At present the company has only i one steamer in the trade, as against four vessels of the Union Company's great fleet.
