RUGBY COMPETITORS.
SUGGESTED SEDDON SHIELD. On the occasion of the match last Combined Nelson, Marlburough and West Coast v. Australia, representatives of the various Unions interested discussed the question of instituting a challenge shield for competition between teams representing Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast and Duller Unions. As a result the following tentative suggestions were received by the West Coast Rugby Union from the Nelson Union:
1. That a shield be purchased by equal payments from the four Unions probable cost between £3O and £4O. It is hoped that portion of this will bo donated by presidents and vice-presi-dents of the Unions, and other gentlemen interested.
2. To ho named, say the Seddon Shield.
3. Tho Shield to be the property of the four Unions. 4. A committee of delegates with Nelson as headquarters, being the most central, is to judge all disputes and award the Shield. 5. Contests to be conducted on tho lines of tho Ranfurly Shield as drawn up in N.Z.R.U. Annual. 6. Instead of Rule 1, however, of (ho Ranfurly competition, tho following rule to bo substituted: Nelson to play Marlborough, and Duller to play West Const this season, the winners to play off at Nelson, if possible, this year; if not, in 1907. The winners of this match to hold the Shield, the challenge rules ns laid down by the Ranfurly Competition Committee then f" come into force.
At the weekly meeting of the Committee of tho West Coast Rugby Union last, night it was agreed on the motion of Dr McKay, to Tallin with the proposal and to suggest that the headquarters of tho committee of delegates controlling the competition bo alternately at Nelson and Westport. Tt was also decided to suggest that faili/ig an agreement between tho Unions on the conditions of the competition a conference of delegates from the Unions interested bo held. BRUNNER PRESIDENT’S v. THE STATE COLLIERY. This match was played on the Dunollio ground, and resulted in a win for Drulmer by 14 points to nil. The Colliery could only produce eight men and these faced the Brunner team of fourteen. As was only to bo expected, Brunner had a cheap thing on. After playing about twelve minutes tho Colliery team wisely decided not to go on with the game, as it was useless battling against such big odds. Mr T. Lecher was referee.
