The Gertie spoke the barque Devonport on Saturday twenty miles this side of Stephen’s Island. She had sprang a leak, and was making for Wellington. WELLINGTON, This Day. The barque Devonport, bound from Groymouth to Australia, arrived off the heads unexpectedly on Monday, and signalled for a tug. On arrival in the stream it was learned that the vessel had sprung a leak, andTi.ad water freely whilst she was at sea. Captain Bendall wehtnmt and made an examination of the barque, this morning. It appears that the vessel left Groymouth, timber-laden, for Warnambool, on the sth of May. She met with heavy weather and sprang a leak, and ns she was leaking profusely,, the crew went to the captain and asked it he would make for the nearest port. He consented, and reached Wellington yesterday. Captain Bendall found the ship in a leaky condition, and will have to discharge cargo in order to bo able to effect repairs. Another survey will be made when the cargo is discharged.
