SECOND ISSUE
His Worship the Mayor to-day received the Hollowing letter from Major Alexander, private Secretary to Jiis Excellency the Governor: - Government House, Wellington. New Zealand, April 10th, I!UH.
Sin. —We have constantly heen travelling about for the past two months, and it was not until yesterday that his Excellency the Governor thoroughly examined the Address he received from Groymouth. Ho has asked me to let you know that he considers it highly artistic, and one of the lies! lie has received during his stay in New Zealand. Great credit is due to the artists who drew it up.-—Your obedient servant, Dummy Ai-kxanuhu, P.S. The address was in the form of a scroll around width were entwined the rata and clematis beautifully painted on a grey background. Set in the scroll were the oil paintings representing Point Elizabeth, Goal Greek water falls and Lake Brunner.
The lloral decorations and the oil paintings were the work of Miss Gloeson and reflect great credit on that lady’s skill as an artist. The engrossing of the address was left in the hands of Mr E. Warnes and was executed in that gentleman’s well-known style
