The Waitangi Wrecked. Sydney, Feb. 1.
The well-knoAvn yacht Waitangi, which won the first intei"-State race in Australia, sunk at Noumea after a collision with the Messageries steamer Pacifique. The crew escaped. Labor Platform. The Political Labor League Conference have made Crown Lands a prominent feature of their programme. The League is also in favor of the establishment of a Public Trust Office on lines similar to New Zealand, State control of liquor traffic, and (where practicable) State manufacture of alcoholic beverages. Telegraph Despatch. Melbourne, Feb. 1. The Federal Postmaster-General has decided to make a trial of the invention of Gell, of New Zealand, for increasing the speed in the transmission of telegrams.
