Westport, Jan. 18. At the inquest ou David Shannon at Karamea, on Saturday, the verdict was that deceased cut his throat whilst of unsound mind and suffering from excessive drinking. On Sunday morning a young man named Antoni Henry Domini Morganti, aged 20 years, was drowned at Granity. He was fishing off a rock with two brothers, and one of the lines becoming snagged Morganti went down on a ledge to loosen it. The two brothers later missed deceased, and a search being made they recovered his body, but life was extinct. At the Westport harbour board’s meeting to-day the chairman furnished the following information in connection with the past year’s work. The year 1903 closed with a total revenue return of £66.331 odd, and the balance from all sources to the board’s credit at the end of tbe year was £18,038 14s Id. The sinking fund account had now accumulated to the amount of £42,599 12s 9d to redeem £150,000 in the year 1925. The coal output for the year 1903 was 568,124 tons, an increase over the year 1902 of 51,098 tons. Mr Seddon and party arrived in Westport by the harbor tug from Greymouth on Sunday night and received several deputations at the town hall to-day and loft by special coach for Reef ton this afternoon.

The Westport Coal Coy’s output last week was 11,383 tons B'cwt.
