Mr McKenzie, the member for Waikouaiti, is urging the Minister of Marine to set up a commissson to make a full investigation into the question of fishing by trawling on tho New Zealand coast. The Lyttelton Times thinks that in spite of the Premier's remarks at Masterton that the "Premier will not meet the new Parliament without making at least some of the changes that hp.ve been demanded by the party." It proceeds to declare that Mr Walker's removal from the Education Department is necessary, and that Mr Duncan's resignation is equally so- It strongly supports the claims of Mr McNab for tbe portfolio of lands and says that Canterbury will forego her right of representation in the Cabinet if tbe sacrifice of a portfolio meant the strengthening of the Ministry. The City Council are applying to the Governor for an order authorising the construction of electric tramways throughout the city and suburb?. \ A compensation claim has been filed in the Arbitration Court. The claimant is Mary Ann Edwards, a widow of Croydon Bush and the respondent is John Wither •of Sunnyside station. Queenstown. It is alleged that claimant's husband was cutting timber at the station on July 22nd, when his foot was cut by an axe slipping caused through catching on a vine, the injuries causing his death.
