INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Executive Committee was held at the Council Chambers on 20 th inst. Present—Councillors Stevenson, (chair) Irving, Harold, Bowater and Scantlebury. Correspondence was read from *E. Beale asking for permission to erest a shooting gallery in Smith Street during the Xmas holidays. Or Irving proposed that permission be granted on payment of 10s por day, seconded by Or. Scantlebury and carried.
From Dr Whitton, off aring to sell a number of torches be has on hand. Lsft to the Chairman with power to act. From several residents in the Upper Blackwater protesting against tbe money voted by the Government for the extension of the Blackwater track being diverted to widening the present road. Ordered to stand over till the monthly •meeting. From the manager of the New Inkerman Mines asking that the road and bridge up Harney Creeks be repaired to admit of tbe new machinery, being carted to the Battery. Or Irving proposed that the Engineer be instructed to have the road put in good working order, and the bridge repaired. Seconded by Cr Eowater and carried.
Crlrying proposed, that leave of absence be given to the. County Clerk, Mr Noonan, owing to ill health. Seconded by by Cr Harold and carried. From T. Balfour and others at the Globe Hill re telephone. Cr Irving proposed that the County guarantee the required sum, viz £5 5j tor 5 years, and that the Department be asked to have the same constructed as early as possible. Seconded by Cr Stevenson and carried.
From W. G. Collings calling attention to the ground settling under his buildings in Broadway. Cr Irving proposed that the matter be attendod to as soon as the new main drain is completed. Seconded by Cr Scantlebury and earried. Cr Bowater proposed that the Engineer be instructed to stop all general work until after the Xmaa holidays, employing for only such l Work as is absolutely needed. Seconded by Cr Stevenson and carried. From -jW. T. Stringer, offering to keep tbe streets of Beef ton clean and in good order, to spread all necessary gravel, and to keep the drains flushed for a fixed sum. Ordered to stand over.
