Received this day, at 8 57 a.m. London, July 18. There was a sharp skirmish near Aliwal North, on Sunday 7th. The Ist Connaughts had 20 killed and wounded.
Lord Kitchener has reached Elandsfontein returning from the Cape. He reports thai Captain Charles Botha, son of Phillip, and Lieut Humuo, a Fieldcornet, were killed in the Orange Colony. Featherston Haugh rescued 13 Boers ■on parole whom the Boers held prisoners hecause they refused to break the pledge. The rebels Bladseen, and Kloff, have |k|ii court-martialled at Dordrecht and Steynsburg, and were found guilty of treason and attempted murder. Seven thousand refugees are in camp at Potohefstrom.
A small number are daily surrendering in West and North Transvaal, and KamiEiver district. Olive Sehreiner is accorded utmost freedom at Hanover where martial law exists.
