Arrival of Orient.
The Orient, with the returned troopers for Wellington district, arrived early this morning; and afterwards the Hon. Ward, Walker, Mills, and the Mayor of Wellington, went on board and cordially welcomed the men, who then landed without demonstration. They were entertained at luncheon at tho Drill-shed, but proceedings were formal and quiet. The Champion Yacht.
Wellington, This Day. The champion yacht Rainbow will not return to Auckland. She has been purchased by G. C. Mills, Pear Commodore of Port Nicholson Yacht Club.
111 health of a Minister. Dunedin, This Day. Owing to chest complaint the Kev. A. Gordon who came out from England a few weeks ago to take charge of the Baptist Church in Hanover Street, has been compelled to resign the Pastorate. The Sixth Contingent.
Wellington, This Day.
The following troopers who returned by the Orient have been appointed actingLieutenants in the Sixth subject to appointments being confirmed by the Imperial authorities at the front : —Corporals Morrison, Macdonald and Mitchell ; Privates Wood, Wallis and Blenkhorn. Captain Smith of the Raglan Mounted PJf'.ys who came into camp expecting to get a commission in the Sixth is not going 50 South Africa.
