THE BATTLE OF THE SITES.
The selection of a site for the new Town Ha'l has caused a good deal of diversity of opinion, some fayoring one spot some another. Apparently, there are but two eligible places available ; at least, these were before the selection committee yesterday. Tbo one is in Boundary Street near by where the old cannon stands, the other is that portion of the Church of England reserve in Mackay Street, extending from Albert to Turumaha Street and containing about an acre of ground. The committee, having considered the matter, unanimously decided to recommend the Council to submit the question to the direct vote of the ratepayers, and allow them by vote to declare where the hall is to be erected. This, wo take it, is the fairest and best way of settling the matter. When the subject is fairly before the electors wo shall doubtless have the advantages and disadvantages of both sites duly canvassed and advertised, .
