A public meeting was held a.t the Fernham Hall last night, called for the purpose of discussing the condition of the Aorere Bridge at Rockville, the state of which is such as to cause serious anxiety to the travelling public, and tor the renewal of which no provision was made on last year’s Estimates, Mr J. At the Nelson Education Board sitting on Monday, the tender of ,-Mr J. M. Davies was accepted for .erection of teacher’s new residence at Collingwood, the price being The Kailuna Committee was also authorised to accent Mr Avery’s tender tor outbuildings at that school.—A letter received from the Rockville Committee was referred to the teacher. • Messrs F, \V. Falconer and Co. of Rockville intend holdi ig a trial test of the Lawrence-Kennedy Milking Machine during next month (February), at the farm of Messrs Haldane and Penny, at Bainham. The exact date will be made known later, and the trial will prove of great interest to dairy farmers in the district, who will require to keep themselves u-pto date in scientific methods of milk production. Among the candidates who did well at the recent scholarship examinations at Nelson we notice the names of Ethel McNabb (who ran second) and Myra Allan, both of Collingwood School. Miss Walker, of Ferutown, also wou a scholarship valued at ,£4O per annum. A reward is offered for the return of a pair of lost spectacles. We beg to acknowledge receipt of the post office guide for the current month. '
Ordinary and special meetings of the County Council will be held on Monday next,'at 10 a.m. Tenders for various works close on that day.
The Golden Bay A. and P. Show will be held at Takaka to-morrow, and the Takaka Races on the following day. We notice that the special order making a special rate by the Collingwood County’ Council for the Gibbstown Water Supply Scheme has been gazetteed in the New Zealand Gazettee.
The s.s. Tasman has been sold to the Anchor S.S. Co., of Nelson, and will continue to run in the Wellington, Motueka, Nelson trade*
