Both victim au</ assailant were transported to their quarters i;« an unconscious state, and Aubry died soon ufter u without recovering his senses. On examination it was found that the first wound the young; officer had received was but slight ; the second, however, had pierced the liver, mrlicting us mortal hurt. He lingered on for several Lourv and died in great pain, after having given particulars of the attack made on him. The causes which led to the murder are supposed to havfi arisen from jealousy and hatred. Aubry hac* been very unpopular in the regiment, and at the conclusion of his engagement his application to rsnew it had been set aside. Since theu he had; had much difficulty in procuring work, and recently had sunk into great poverty through his ill-succes*. He had been heard to threaten the officers of his old regiment, threats which culminated in the murder of the young veterinary surgeon. "
