THE GRAVEDIGGER’S FRIGHT.

A gruesome affair occurred in the CUmont Cemetery, Baris, on Sunday. An old man named Math t, who died in Hospital after an operation for cancir, had been buried during the forenoon, and two gravediggers were lilting the grave towards evi ning, when they were alarmed by hearing as they supposed, knocks coming from inside the coffin. They assert that three distinct raps were given, and, convinced that they weie burying a livnig man, they made a hole iu the coffin with a pickaxe, iu order to give the occupant air. Then a faint voice was heard, apparently coming from the corpse, painfully railing for his son Clement. A doctor was sent for with all haste, and he arrived before the lid ot the coffin was torn off. Passing his hand through the hole in the lid, ha declared that the gravediggers must have been mistaken, for not only was the body deadly cold, but it had been cut open and several of the principal organs were missing, Both tho gravediggi rs and the populace, however, are still uncouvinci d.
