CHINESE CRICKET.

An absolutely unique pet forrnanoe was the Chinese cricket match played some years ago. A number ot Englishmen,resident in China, got up a match, of which a large number of the natives were interested spcctatois. .Shortly afterwards the English were iuvitid by the Chinamen to be present at a match they intended playing, as they had. they said, been studying the game, and had learned how to play il. The ground was in the neighbourhood of Shanghai, while ou the appointed day the Englishmen mustered in full force, lor they wanted to see how many iuns the Celestials would make, for they had never seen one run in their lives. When the game began they were somewhat surprised to see all the fielders crowding round the wicket-, while the gabble was deafening. Subsequent investigation revealed the fact that the hall was secured to a long piece i f string, which was tied round the bowler’s wrist, so, as was gravely explained to the s,stonisLed visitors, “ him not hop belly far.”
