TAKING LIBERTIES.

Martha Howe, a young woman residing at 43, Great Peter-street, Westminster, gave herself up to a police-constable on Saturday afternoon because, as she said, she had “ Done for a woman.” The officer went with her to the address given, and there found, lying on the floor of the front room, Caroline Johnson, a young laundress. She was bleeding,and a bloodslaimd table-knife was lying near her. The constable questioned Howe as to what led up to the stabbing, and sbe replied, “ Oh, the woman took a liberty with mo and I took a liberty with her.” The injured woman was conveyed toWestminster Hospital, where it was found that she had no fewer than five separate stabs about the head. Her arms aud hands were also much cub in her endeavours to defend herself. She was detained at the hospital, and is in a critical condition. Howe is under arrest. There is nothing clearly known as to the cause of the quarrel between the two women.
